Feature Update: Deleting entries not allowed after voting

We just updated the response deletion functionality in Public Contests. Contest entries can no longer be removed after a vote has been cast. Contestants must now consider their suggestions more carefully, because entries with downvotes can no longer be removed.

Hopefully this will increase the competitiveness among contestants and has a positive impact on the quality of entries. It is now more useful to add 30 relevant entries than 100 irrelevant ones.

It kind a bit shock for me (I’m an active contestant), since the feature update was come without notice and yet with ‘little’ contestants participate within a contest in NameStation I believe that more suggestions will increase the contest holder chance to get the domain name he/she after.

With the ‘suggestions limitation’ even the talented & professional naming might not able to give suggestion on the right track since sometimes contest held just by providing a title and really short desc., withoud keywords or names that he/she like.

But whatever, it NS decision. Let the contests run..

Just to clarify, this doesn’t mean there is a suggestion limitation.

The ability to remove downvoted names would defeat the whole purpose of voting, since there would be little consequence to suggesting random or irrelevant names. Granted, the number of entries would be higher, but we don’t want the contest holders having to go through too much noise when choosing a name.

We’ll also be working on ways to get the contest holders define their requirements better, so that you’d have more background information to work with.

-> Yes, but it does indirectly limited the contestant suggestions and even its creativity.

-> Okay, lets protect contest holder side but don’t forget your real friend is your contestants and we need some sort of protection too.

        Cases:
        – What happen when a new contest submitted with little desc.. too broad & down-vote(s)
        – Contest holder define more desc and it turn to be more specific.. old entries don’t work & down-vote(s)
        – Contest holder define more desc and change the contest game plan.. irrelevant & simply down-vote(s)
        – Contest holder having great names but he decided he don’t want use a specific word.. major down-vote(s)
        – Contest holder define new contest game plan .. its down-vote(s) (again)
        – Contest holder don’t pick a winner .. big loss from down-vote(s) entries

        -> I speak for myself.
No contest holders have ever complaint to me related to lots of entries (since I have ask for it). Entries does have some are up-voted, some non-voted and some down-voted. I believe, there is no too much noise to be worried.

-> I believe you need working on this first and then applied this new feature. I have suggest few entries and I still found contest holder have low participation activity.

At the end, I still and will be active on NS although it need more times and lots efforts.
My voice here just to make NS contest better and nothing against it.

        I love NS BTW.

I’m still stay here, but this rule can block all the creativity of other newbie contributor. There is too fear to post at name station. I hope this rule can be revised later. Thanks.

We’ve tweaked the points system, hope this improves it.

Hi Tauno, the new down-voted points system does help contestants to survive against new “Deleting entries not allowed after voting” feature.

But I still remember and even still face it right now where a contest holder don’t do up-voted but keep doing down-voted. So there is no good point if contestants participating a contest and getting no up-voted points but suffer for down-voted points.

And still no hope to be a contest winner, due lack of contest holder participation on entries submitted.

That also applied when contest holder do update that significantly change the way contest run, and its usually take place about 2 up to 4 times within a single contest. That would be a massive down-voted entries from contest holder.

This new feature does hurt contestants.
